T1 European Union, the long path from regional functionality to strategic autonomy

AB El presente trabajo se centra en una de las cuestiones de mayor importancia y actualidad en la Unión Europea, su aspiración por convertirse en un actor internacional de pleno derecho. Por tanto, el principal objetivo de la investigación será identificar las principales debilidades del proyecto europeo en materia de seguridad y defensa. Para ello, se ha utilizado una metodología de investigación cualitativa mediante el análisis de contenido de las fuentes consultadas, con una doble finalidad, reconocer significados mediante el análisis de contenido y también poder situarlos en un contexto determinado mediante deducciones lógicas. Como conclusiones principales, avanzar que la Unión Europea es una estructura que como región funcional le resulta especialmente complicado, por sus propias características y por los cambios más recientes en el contexto mundial, convertirse en agente autónomo en relaciones internacionales
AB This paper focuses on one of the most important and topical issues in the EuropeanUnion, its aspiration to become a full-fledge international actor. Therefore, the main objective of theresearch will be to identify the main weaknesses of the european project in the field of security anddefence. to this end, a qualitative research methodology has been used through the analysis of thecontent of the sources consulted, with a dual purpose, recognize meanings through content analysisand also be able to place them in a given context through logical deductions. As main conclusions, to advance that the European Union is a structure that as a functional region is particularlycomplicated, by its own characteristics and by the most recent changes in the global context, tobecome an autonomous agent on international relations
