AB China’s expanding technological footprint in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is challenging traditional patterns of dependency dominated by the United States. This article applies Social Network Analysis (SNA) to examine technological power dynamics through foreign patent registrations between 2013 and 2023. By analyzing centrality and concentration, the study assesses the persistence of asymmetries in the region’s technological network. The findings show that, despite China’s growing influence, the core–periphery structure remains intact and technological dependency continues to revolve around historical powers.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AB La creciente huella tecnológica de China en América Latina y el Caribe (LAC) está desafiando los patrones tradicionales de dependencia dominados por Estados Unidos. Este artículo aplica el Análisis de Redes Sociales (SNA) para examinar las dinámicas de poder tecnológico mediante patentes extranjeras registradas entre 2013 y 2023. A través del análisis de centralidad y concentración, se evalúa la persistencia de las asimetrías en la red tecnológica de la región. Los resultados muestran que, pese al aumento de la influencia china, la estructura centro–periferia se mantiene y la dependencia sigue girando en torno a los actores históricos.
