RT Journal Article T1 Variaciones en las faunas de foraminíferos bentónicos del Mar de Alborán durante el evento Heinrich 6 T1 Variability in Alboran Sea benthic foraminifera faunas during Heinrich 6 event A1 Pérez Martín, Rubén A1 Sierro, Francisco Javier A1 Flores, José Abel AB Heinrich events are cold periods during which icebergs discharge took place in the North Atlantic Ocean. Those cold events modified both the surface water temperature and the North Atlantic deep water formation, thus influencing bottom water ventilation. The present study has been carried out in core ODP 977 from theAlboran Sea in order to analyze the variations in the deep sea water formation in the Western MediterraneanSea during Heinrich Event 6. During non-Heinrich events benthic foraminifera Cibicidoides pachydermaand Globobulimina spp. dominated the foraminifer association, but during Heinrich Events modification inthe amount of the oxygen and organic matter in the environment ocurred, with the consequence of anuprise in the Cassidulina laevigata presence. Those observed changes during Heinrich Event 6 in WesternMediterranean Sea are similar to those previously described by other authors in North Atlantic sediments PB Sociedad Geológica de España YR 2006 FD 2006 LK http://hdl.handle.net/10272/8642 UL http://hdl.handle.net/10272/8642 LA spa DS Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Huelva RD 30 may 2026
