Este trabajo aborda tres facetasdistintas de su labor de mediación: sufaceta como escritor de libros de historiay relatos breves de temática hispánica, sufunción de nexo social entre varias figurasespañolas y británicas, y el estatus que élmismo llegó a adquirir en Reino Unidocomo icono de una suerte de hispanidad.El objetivo es, por un lado, aumentar nuestroconocimiento de las dinámicas de relacióncultural que existían entre España yReino Unido durante la época en cuestión.Por otro lado, obtendremos una impresiónmás amplia acerca de las muchas formas enque una persona puede ejercer la mediacióncultural entre países, al igual que lasmotivaciones que pueden subyacer a estamediación
AB Robert Bontine Cunninghame Grahamwas one of the most significant intermediariesin the cultural relationships betweenSpain and the UK at the end of the 19thcentury and the beginning of the 20th.This essay analyses three different aspectsthrough which he carried out this mediatingrole: first, his authorship of a number ofhistory books and short stories centred onthe Spanish-speaking world; second, his roleas a social nexus between a number of Spanishand British figures; third, the role hecame to occupy in the United Kingdom asan icon of the Spanish-speaking world andsome qualities associated with it. The aimis, on the one hand, to expand our knowledgeof the dynamics of cultural exchangethat existed between Spain and the UnitedKingdom during these years. More widely,we will observe the many ways in whichone individual could mediate between twocountries and their cultures, as well as themotivations he may have had for doing so
