RT Conference Proceedings T1 The virtual museum for meteorites : an online resource for students , educators and researchers A1 Madiedo Gil, José María AB The role of meteorites in educationand outreach is fundamental, as these are very valuabletools to promote the public's interest in Astronomy andPlanetary Sciences. Meteorite exhibitions reveal thefascination of students, educators and even researchersfor these extraterrestrial rocks and how these can explainmany key questions related to the origin and evolutionof our Solar System. In spite of the efforts of private collectors, museumsand other institutions to organize meteorite exhibitions, the reach of these is usually limited. However, this issue can be solved thanks to the Internet. In factwe can take advantage of HTML and related technologiesto overcome local boundaries and offer the possibilityof offering these exhibitions for a global audience. With this aim a Virtual Museum for Meteoriteshas been created. A description of this on-line tool isgiven here.
