A1 Conde Vélez, Sara AB The academic dropout of higher education studentsrepresents one of the most significant challenges thatuniversity institutions have to face today. This researchanalysed the university academic trajectory of studentswho dropped out of university for good. The aim of thispaper is to examine in depth the factors that influencethe idea of the construction of academic dropout andits relationship with the difficulties of adaptation to theuniversity training system. A qualitative study was carriedout in which the interview technique was applied to n = 34dropout students belonging to three Spanish autonomouscommunities. The results made it possible to identify andexamine students' difficulties in adapting to universitystudies in greater depth. The interviews revealedcontextual and emotional details that contributed todropout, such as personal and professional challenges anda lack of emotional support. The findings lead to the needto approach the issue from a holistic viewpoint in order toaddress the different reasons behind university dropouts.This broad view of the academic trajectories of universitystudents who drop out is a benchmark for strategies toimprove student retention and success in higher education.
