T1 Virginia Woolf y los clásicos : sobre el manejo de la alusión mitológica en The Waves (el mundo clásico sugerido)

AB Nuestro artículo pretente mostrar algunas de las alusionesmitológicas presentes en la obra de Virginia Woolf, con especialatención a The Waves, donde el motivo de la metamorfosis —tambiénen Mrs. Dalloway y Orlando- afecta a todos sus personajes, quetambién se identifican en sus monólogos con Aretusa, Filomela oPrometeo (entre otros), cabalgan sobre Pegaso, cazan animalescargados de simbolismo mitológico o describen su actualizadodescenso a los infiernos. A diferencia de lo que ocurre en otras obras,la alusión es siempre indirecta, de acuerdo con la pretensión de Woolfde reducir en The Waves el contenido a lo esencial.___________________________________Our article wants to show some of the mythological allusionspresent in the works of Virginia Woolf, with special attention to TheWaves, where metamorphosis affects all the characters (the same as inMrs. Dalloway and Orlando), who in their monologues identifythemselves with Arethusa, Philomela or Prometeus (among others),ride on Pegasus, hunt animals full of mythological symbolism ordescribe their personal descent into hell. The allusion is alwaysindirect, contrary to others of her works, according to Woolfs intentionin The Waves to reduce the content to the essential.
