T1 Un gigante con los pies de barro : la torre del Río del Oro en el siglo XVIII

AB Tal vez por las preguntas que noshacemos ante sus carcomidos restos, latorre del Río del Oro ocupa un lugardestacado entre las atalayas destruidasde la costa de Huelva. Sin embargo, másallá de su referencia en trabajos generalessobre el sistema de almenaras, se tratade una torre muy desconocida, tantoen lo tocante a su historia como a sumorfología, características y estado dedefensa. El presente trabajo pretende, pormedio de un acercamiento documental ycartográfico, avanzar en el conocimientode tan interesante edificio, explicando supapel como elemento defensivo primordialde un enclave estratégico y analizandolas reformas que sufrió durante el sigloXVIII para atender a la problemática decimentación que finalmente acabaría pordestruirla.
AB Maybe because of the questions thatwe ask ourselves when we are in front ofits eaten-away remains, the tower of Ríodel Oro takes a prominent position amongthe ruined watch towers on the coastof Huelva. Nevertheless, apart from itsmention in general studies on the systemof beacon towers, it is a very unknownone, not only if we refer to its history andmorphology, but also to its characteristicsand condition of defence. The presentstudy expects, by means of a documentaryand cartographic approach, to progressin the knowledge of such an interestingconstruction, explaining its role as adefensive basic element of a strategic spotand analyzing the reforms that sufferedin order to help its foundation problemsduring the 18th century, a circumstancewhich finally destroyed it.
