AB En las primeras décadas del siglo XX,Nueva York se convirtió en la imagen de lamodernidad. Ante la crisis de identidad nacionalque sufría España, la ciudad se cristalizócomo tema estrella en las letras españolas,representando un posible modelo enla pugna entre tradición y modernidad. Paralelamente,se produjeron en todo el mundoimportantes cambios sociales, en especialpara las mujeres. Tomando como referenciala representación de Nueva York en la novelade Luis de Oteyza, Anticípolis, analizaremoslos estereotipos femeninos que aparecen yobservaremos la disputa entre modernidad ytradición representadas en el conflicto entrelos personajes principales. El objetivo de esteartículo es indagar en los procesos de modernizaciónen la situación de la mujer que estánimplícitos en el conflicto entre los modelosfemeninos del “ángel del hogar” y la flapper
AB In the first decades of the 20th century,New York becomes the image of modernity.Because of the crisis in national identity thatSpain underwent, the city became an importanttopic in Spanish literature, as an optionin the battle between tradition and modernity.Those were years of great social changeshappened, especially for women. Taking asreference the description of New York thatLuis Oteyza presents in his novel Anticípolis,we will analyze the female stereotypes thatappear in the novel, and how the disputebetween modernity and tradition are representedin the conflict between the maincharacters. The objective of this article is toinvestigate the processes of modernizationin the status of women that underlie the conflictbetween the models of the “angel of thehome” and that of the flapper.
