His first paleontological notes appeared after his recovery of cretaceous fossil bones near Morelia. In particular, he directed his work to Spanish dinosaurs and associated fauna. Subsequently, he studied the general characteristics o f the Wealden in the Iberian Peninsula and other parts of Europe.In addition, Royo published preliminary notes on miocene faunas and floras from Ribesalbes, Cuevas de Vinromá and Alcalá de Chivert, and on quaternary faunas from Villavieja-.
