AB En la Psicología en general, y en la PsicologíaClínica en particular, se mantienen todoun conjunto de creencias inexactas sobrela aplicación del castigo, que se identificaúnicamente con agresión física, sin tener encuenta el potencial punitivo de la conductaverbal. De hecho, el castigo verbal es unaherramienta ampliamente utilizada por el clínicopara moldear la conducta verbal del cliente.Con el objetivo de clarificar el papel del castigoverbal en terapia, se analizó el presente caso.Se comenzó construyendo un sistema paracategorizar las verbalizaciones desadaptativasdel cliente y analizar su dinámica a lo largo dela terapia, encontrando una tendencia generaldescendente. Después se analizó la relación entrelas verbalizaciones punitivas del terapeuta y lasverbalizaciones del cliente, encontrando que elcastigo apenas se aplicaba a las verbalizacionesdesadaptativas del cliente, dirigiéndose sobretodo a otro tipo de verbalizaciones y a la propiaconducta verbal.
AB In psychology in general, and in clinicalpsychology in particular, there remain a hostof inaccurate beliefs about the applicationof punishment, which is only understood asphysical aggression, without taking into accountthe punitive potential of verbal behavior. In fact,verbal punishment is a widely used tool by theclinician to shape client verbal behavior. In orderto clarify the role of verbal punishment in therapy,the present case was analyzed. First, a system forcategorizing the client’s maladaptive utterancesand analyzing their dynamic throughout therapywas constructed, finding a general downwardtrend. Subsequently, the relationship betweenthe therapist’s punitive verbalizations and theclient’s verbalizations was analyzed, findingthat punishment was barely applied to theclient’s maladaptive verbalizations, mainly beingaddressed to other type of verbalizations and tothe verbal behavior itself.
