T1 La transmisión de textos budistas en Occidente: análisis de los textos, métodos e impacto cultural

AB En el presente trabajo analizamos cómo se ha producido la transmisión de los textos budistas enOccidente, teniendo en cuenta que ha sido un proceso complejo por diversos factores. Uno de ellos sonlas traducciones de los manuscritos originales. Otro de ellos son las concepciones culturales de los paísesreceptores. Finalmente, la predisposición ética y moral de la cultura receptora de las enseñanzas de estostextos que se quieren mantener fieles a su origen.Nuestro estudio demuestra que no solo han sido transmisiones y enseñanzas que se fundamentan en ideasfilosóficas y espirituales, sino que estamos ante lo que podemos considerar una nueva forma de literaturaque cumple con lo necesario para dar continuidad a un género que está arraigado en Asia y quiere buscarun lugar donde transmitirse lo más fielmente posible en Occidente. Temas fundamentales y de granimportancia dentro de esta literatura budista son conceptos como la impermanencia, el sufrimiento, lameditación y la búsqueda de la iluminación han dado riqueza y han influido notablemente en autoresoccidentales que, de cierta manera, exploran el sentido de la vida, la naturaleza del yo y la interconexiónde todos los seres.El género literario budista aporta todo lo anterior y además se enriquece y suplementa con conceptos queestán incluidos en los textos de origen como son los sutra y los kōan, añadiendo conceptos que sonespirituales y filosóficos. Hemos tenido en cuenta que el primer paso que se intentó en Occidente fue la forma en que los textos budistas se adaptaron a un lenguaje accesible para llegar al público. Hemosanalizado los textos fundamentales budistas y nuestra aportación ha sido la traducción de uno de losprincipales textos de la cultura budista como es el Sutra del Corazón, utilizando fuentes originales paraasí tener un acercamiento más realístico y menos influenciado por nuestro entorno cultural. Esta es una premisa fundamental según indican los maestros budistas que quieren mantener un legado lo más cercano a la fuente principal de los textos.
AB In this paper, we analyze how the transmission of Buddhist texts has taken place in the West, considering that it has been a complex process due to several factors. One of them is the translation of the original manuscripts. Another is the cultural conceptions of the receiving countries. Finally, the ethical and moral predisposition of the receiving culture for these texts teaches for remaining faithful to their origin.Our study shows that these have not only been transmissions and teachings based on philosophical and spiritual ideas but that we are facing what we can consider a new form of literature that fulfills what is necessary to give continuity to a genre that is rooted in Asia and wants to find a place where it can be transmitted as faithfully as possible in the West. Fundamental themes of great importance within this Buddhist literature are concepts such as impermanence, suffering, meditation, and the search for enlightenment, which have given richness and have greatly influenced Western authors who, in a certain way, explore the meaning of life, the nature of the self and the interconnectedness of all beings.The Buddhist literary genre brings all the above enriched and supplemented with concepts included in the source texts, such as the sutra and the kōan, adding spiritual and philosophical terms. We have considered that the first step attempted in the West was the adaptation of Buddhist texts to an accessible language to reach the public. We have analyzed the fundamental Buddhist texts, and our contribution has been the translation of one of the main texts of Buddhist culture, such as the Heart Sutra, using sources to have a more realistic approach and less influenced by our cultural environment. That is a fundamental premise according to Buddhist masters who want to maintain a legacy as close as possible to the main source of the texts.
