AB La aparición de los videojuegos como forma de entretenimiento de niños yadolescentes ha suscitado una gran polémica y preocupación acerca de las posiblesconsecuencias negativas que pudieran tener sobre el desarrollo y la conducta de aquellos quelos utilizan con regularidad. En este trabajo se seleccionan 207 adolescentes entre 10 y 17años pertenecientes a distintos centros escolares de Primaria y Secundaria de Huelva capital.Los resultados indican que el grado de implantación de esta actividad es bastante elevado,apareciendo de forma manifiesta diferencias asociadas al género: la mayoría devideojugadores son chicos, dedicando más del doble de tiempo que las chicas. Por otra parte,videojugadores y no videojugadores no difieren significativamente ni en cuanto alrendimiento académico ni en la estructura básica de personalidad.
AB The appearance of the videogames as a form of children and adolescents entertainmenthas raised a great polemic and concern about the posible negative consequences it could haveon the development and the behavior of those that use videogames on a regular basis. In thiswork 207 adolescents between 10 and 17 years old from different primary and secondaryschool centers in Huelva were selected. The results indicate that the degree of implantation ofthis activity is quite high, appearing apparent differences associated to the gender: most ofvideoplayers are male, spending more than twice the time used by female players invideogames. On the other hand, videoplayers and non videoplayers don’t differ significantlyneither from the academic achievement neither from the basic structure of personality.
