RT Journal Article T1 Assessment of the Tribological Performance of Electrospun Lignin Nanofibrous Web-Thickened Bio-Based Greases in a Nanotribometer A1 Borrego Algarra, María A1 Kuhn, Erik A1 Martín Alfonso, José Enrique A1 Franco Gómez, José María AB The tribological performance of novel bio-based lubricating greases thickened with electrospunlignin nanostructures was investigated in a nanotribometer using a steel-steel ball-on-discconfiguration. The impact of electrospun nanofibrous network morphology on friction and wearis explored in this work. Different lignin nanostructures were obtained with electrospinning usingethylcellulose or PVP as co-spinning polymers and subsequently used as thickeners in castor oil atconcentrations of 10-30% wt. Friction and wear generally increased with thickener concentration. However, friction and wear decreased when using homogeneous bead-free nanofiber mats (withhigher fiber diameter and lower porosity) rather than nanostructures dominated by the presence ofparticles or beaded fibers, which was favored by reducing the lignin:co-spinning polymer ratio.
