This basin is affected by the NE-SW trending sinistral Carboneras Fault, and also by a set of NW-SE oriented normal faults. The basement is formed by rocks of the Internal Zones of the Betic Cordilleras and volcanic rocks. The new acquired gravity data, along several profiles orthogonal and parallel to the main structures, indicate that the basin basement is very irregular, probably as a consequence of the deformations related to the normal and strike-slip fault sets. In general, basin infill Is asymmetrical and thicker towards the SE margin, corresponding to the Sierra de Gata volcanic rocks, and southwestwards, where the basin connects with the Alboran Sea}, publisher = {Sociedad Geológica de España}, title = {Estructura de la Cuenca de Níjar a partir de datos gravimétricos (Cordillera Bética oriental)}, title = {Níjar Basin structurc from gravity data (eastern Betic Cordillera)}, author = {Pedrera Parias, Antonio and Marín Lechado, Carlos and Galindo Zaldívar, Jesús and Rodríguez Fernández, L.
