AB Griegos y romanos conectaron con su pasado, enprimer lugar, a través del poema épico. Éste, conlos recursos que eran propios del género poético,caracterizó el modo de elaborar el relato historiográficoposterior. Así, ficción y realidad fueron loselementos que dieron forma a las historias que nosdejaron griegos y romanos. Intentamos aquí ofrecerlas actitudes que los historiadores de Romaasumieron a la hora de compatibilizar la ficcióncon la evidencia, la fábula con la realidad, y su consecuenciaen el relato historiográfico.
AB Ancient Greeks and Romans knew about theirpast primarily through the epic poem. With thepoetic resources typical of this genre, it went onto typify the way in which the historical reportwas made. In other words, both truth and fictionbecame elements giving form to the histories ofGreek and Roman authors. In this paper, we explorethe Roman historians’ attitudes in order toreconcile fiction with evidence, fable with fact andthe consequences on the historical account
