RT Conference Proceedings T1 Analisys of a datyme fireball witnessed on August 10, 2012 over the Iberian Peninsula A1 Docobo, José A. A1 Madiedo Gil, José María A1 Campo, P. P. A1 Trigo Rodríguez, Josep María AB Meteorite-dropping bolides are rareevents that may provide unique samples coming fromother bodies in the Solar System. For this reason, theanalysis of such events is one of the aims of the SPanishMeteor Network (SPMN), which is currently operating25 meteor and fireball observing stations tomonitor the night sky. In the evening of August 10,2012, about half an our before sunset, a very brightfireball (at least mag. -14) was witnessed over thenorthwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The event tookplace under daylight conditions and, so, before ourdetection systems started operation. However, its observationwas very favourable for numerous visualwitnesses that could account for it. So, despite no imageswere recorded, the atmospheric path of the bolidecould be reconstructed from the observation providedby these. In this work we present a preliminary analysisof this event. Our calculations reveal that, in fact, this fireball could have produced a meteorite, althoughthis would have landed on the Cantabrian Sea.
