This suture zone corresponds to a crustal thrust that accommodated shortening in its footwall block along the cover (Subbetics)-basement (Hercynian crust) detachment. This fact and the absence of a true continental hypercollision, lead to discard the existence of a mid-crustal detachment whose emersion caused the formation of the Spanish Central SystemspaAtribución-NoComercial-SinDerivadas 3.0 Españahttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/es/Deep seismic reflection profilesCrustal shorteningIntraplate stress transmissioCentral BeticsSpanish Central SystemLa deformación intraplaca del centro de España y la interpretación de los perfiles profundos de sísmica de reflexión en las Cordilleras BéticasIntraplate deformation in central Spain and the interpretation of deep seismic reflectíon profiles in the Betic Cordillerasjournal articleopen access
