Abstract
El estudio sobre la obra de Cristóbal de Mesa (1559?
-
1633), en particular sobre el
Valle de lágrimas y
diversas Rimas
, surg
e de la necesidad de sacar del olvido a uno de los poetas de segunda línea dentro de la
poesía española del Siglo de Oro y darle un lugar dentro del extenso corpus de la Literatura aurisecular. Su vida y
su obra vienen marcadas por las distintas residencia
s españolas e italianas que le permitió entablar amistad y
correspondencia con notables escritores de la época. Fray Luis de León, Fernando de Herrera, Luis Barahona de
Soto, Baltasar de Escobar, Torquato Tasso, Vittoria Colonna, Miguel de Cervantes o Fran
cisco de Quevedo, entre
otros, influyeron notablemente en la elaboración y composición de sus libros. En 1594 Cristóbal de Mesa publica
su primera obra,
Las Navas de Tolosa
y una década después sacará a la luz
La restauración de España
(1607) y
Valle de lá
grimas y diversas Rimas
(1607). Después vendrán
El patrón de España
con otras Rimas
(1612),
La
Eneida de Virgilio
(1615) y
Las Geórgicas y Bucólicas, con otras Rimas, y El Pompeyo
(1618), completando así su
repertorio bibliográfico. La obra religiosa que i
mprime en 1607,
Valle de lágrimas y diversas Rimas
, es una obra
de fuerte carácter sagrado y contrarreformista procedente de las teorías del Concilio de Trento. El libro viene
acompañado de un extenso
corpus
de
Rimas
de diversa consideración, en el que se
recogen las composiciones
más líricas del poeta escritas en un periodo que abarca de 1580 a 1604 y en las que el poeta español se debate
entre el tema del amor, de la vida retirada, de la «vanitas vanitatum» y de la poesía áulica, entre otros. El
estudio h
a consistido en una edición actualizada y comentada de la obra, así como la realización de un análisis
preliminar en el que se tratan aspectos importantes de la vida y obra del autor. Se han abordado igualmente
aspectos relevantes en torno al texto acerca
de la gestación de la obra en su contexto espacio

temporal o de la
relación con su otro libro,
La restauración de España
(1607), con el que comparte fechas y datos de impresión, y
que aportan al texto una singularidad concreta dentro de la extensa obra de
Cristóbal de Mesa.
The study about the literary work of Cristóbal de Mesa (1559? - 1633), especially over the Valle de lágrimas y diversas Rimas , arises fro m the need to extract from oblivion one of the poets from second line in the Spanish poetry of The Golden Century and give him a place inside the extensive corpus of auresicular literature. His life and work are marked by different spanish and italian resi dences that allowed him to establish friendship and correspondence with notable writers of the time. Fray Luis de León, Fernando Herrera, Luis Barahona de Soto, Baltasar Escobar, Torquato Tasso, Vittoria Colonna, Miguel de Cervantes and Francisco de Queved o, among others, notably influenced in the development and composition of his books. Cristóbal de Mesa published his first book in 1594, Las Navas de Tolosa and one decade later published La restauración de España (1607) and Valle de lágrimas y diversas Ri mas (1607). El patrón de España (1612), La Eneida de Virgilio (1615) and Las geórgicas y bucólicas, y Rimas, y el Pompeyo tragedia (1618), completing its bibliographic repertoire. The religious work printed in 1607, Valle de lágrimas y diversas Rimas , have strong character sacred and counter - reformist theories from the Council of Trent. The book is accompanied by an extensive corpus of rhymes of diverse consideration, in which the most lyrical poet of compositions writted from 1580 to 1604; the spanish poet debated between the love theme, withdrawing life, "vanitas vanitatum" and poetry «áulica», among others. The study consisted of an updated and commented edition, as well as conducting a preliminary analysis that important aspects are discussed from his li fe and work.
