Abstract
The influenza epidemic that swept the world hit Huelva in three waves, which have been analyzed throughout this study, wich the one that developed in October of 1918 being the most virulence and leaving a death toll in the country only be surpassed by the Civil War. This work aims to study the course of the 1918- 19 influenza epidemic in the city of Huelva. A thorough analysis of documentation from both newspaper sources and archival records has been carried out. We have reviewed all news related to the influenza in the newspaper La Provincia, while also consulting and analyzing documents from the Municipal Historical Archive of Huelva. Additionally, a literature review of all work related to the subject has been conducted. This review of the documentation has provided data on how various organizations worked to tackle the epidemic, and how it led to the implementation of changes in both charity services and healthcare. A general conclusion that can be drawn is that this historic event spurred a series of indispensable advances in the fight against the disease up to that point
