Abstract
Objetivo principal: Describir el papel de la mujer en el siglo XIX y su influencia en los cuidados brindados por éstas en el Hospital de las Cinco Llagas de Sevilla.
Metodología: Búsqueda bibliográfica en diversas bases de datos y revistas.
Resultados principales: El papel de la mujer quedaba sumiso en la sociedad y en la educación. En cambio, en la asistencia estaba bastante presente, como queda reflejado en el hospital de las Cinco Llagas de Sevilla. En este centro, las mujeres estaban divididas en dos sectores: en madres o enfermeras mayores y en hijas doncellas. Fue creado para atender a mujeres, pero posteriormente ampliaron espacios destinados a ambos sexos. Las mujeres principalmente se encargaban de las labores domésticas y la asistencia de enfermos. Además, vivían en clausura femenina, bajo la supervisión masculina.
Conclusión principal: Los cuidados han sido fundamentalmente aportados por mujeres que deseaban una dote y un lugar de refugio.

Women were mainly in charge of housework and caring for the sick. In addition, they lived in a female enclosure, under male supervision. Conclusions: The care has been mainly provided by women who wanted a dowry and a place of refuge.
