Los besos de Juan Segundo

Abstract

Este artículo trata de forma sucinta algunos de los poemas de la serie conocida como Los Besos del poeta holandés Juan Segundo (Everaerts). El interés que el Liber Basiorum de Segundo despierta en la literatura latina y vernácula del último Renacimiento nos pone al corriente del arte de la imitación, atemporal y continua, de algunos motivos señeros de la literatura, no sólo de Juan Segundo, sino también de Catulo, mostrándonos su influencia en el arte renacentista. Los diecinueve besos de Segundo nos sumergen en la esfera artística del inconmensurable maestro que fue Catulo. Sus poemas de besos dedicados a Lesbia son los mejor conocidos, si bien no deben dejarse de lado la profundidad de su pensamiento y su sentido existencial de las cosas y de las situaciones cotidianas, por más que sus poemas de amor ocupen, de hecho, un lugar principal de la literatura latina clásica.____________________________________ The following article concisely deals with some of the poems from a series known as Basia by the Dutch poet Janus Secundus (Everaerts). The interest aroused by Secundus' Liber Basiorum in Late-Renaissance Latin and vernacular literature reminds us about the constant and timeless art of imitation seen within some unique literary topics, not only by Janus Secundus but also from Catullus, thus showing his influence in Renaissance art. Secundus' nineteen Basia make us plunge into the artistic circle of the great master Catullus, who's better known for his kiss poems dedicated to Lesbia. However, we should not forget about his deep thinking or his existential sense about things and daily situations, even when we know his love poems are, in fact, the epitome of Classic Latin Literature.
