El complejo industrial de salazones gaditano de Camposoto, San Fernando (Cádiz)

Abstract

Presentamos en este trabajo otro claro exponente de la importancia que tuvo esta actividad económica de Gadir. Sin embargo, lo más significativo de estos hallazgos no radica en este hecho, sino lo que aporta en cuanto a un conocimiento más exhaustivo de ésta, puesto que este complejo industrial de salazones es el que nos reporta la mayor antigüedad de los hasta ahora conocidos en el llamado «Círculo del Estrecho o Gaditano»: sus restos materiales, a tenor de los tipos cerámicos encontrados nos remontan a los inicios del s. VI a.C., extendiendo su actividad a las postrimerías del s. V a. C., quizá hacia su último cuarto (600 a. C.- 425 a. C.). Paralelo a ello, obtenemos un mejor conocimiento de la evolución de la producción de salsas y salazones de pescado y de su comercialización a través de las producciones cerámicas destinadas a contenerlas.

Another clear example of the importance of the economic activity of Gadir is presented in this paper. However, the significance of this site does not lie in itself but that it provides a more exhaustive knowledge of this economic activity, as up to now this industrial salting complex is the oldest of all known from the called “Círculo del Estreclio o Gaditano”: judging by the pottery types found, its material remains bring back to the beginning of the 6th century B. C., with its activity continuing during the 5th century B. C., perhaps down to the final quarter of that century (600 B. C.-425 B. C.). Parallel to this, we obtain a better knowledge of the evolution of fish sauce production and salting as well as its commercialization through the pottery productions assigned to contain them.
