Abstract
descritos
A relict lacustrine bed of partially or not consolidated sediments crops out in the surroundings of Cifuentes (Guadalajara, Spain) and is characterized by dark carbonate silt with small fossil limnic bivalves and gastropods including Planorbis and Lymnaea. The small thickness of the bed (always less than 1 m) and its altitude (between 885 and 890 m) allow to relate it with the formation of a paleolake originated by damming of the Cifuentes river. The Los Tobares carbonate tufa complex, located between El Poblado of Cifuentes and Gargoles de Arriba, reached its maximum height (vertical growth) and extension during the last interglacial period (MIS-5,middle-late Pleistocene) and is the most likely cause of the damming of the Cifuentes river which led to the formation of the paleolake and of the lacustrine bed herein described
