Una reescritura dramática de la Odisea homérica: Circe y los cerdos de Carlota O’Neill

Abstract

This paper studies Circe y los cerdos, a play by Carlota O’Neill where the episode of Circe and Odysseus from the Homeric Odyssey is rewritten. The analysis offered mainly focuses on the portrait of the main characters (Circe, Ulysses and the pig-men) and on the intertextual relationships between the two texts. In this regard special attention is given to the incorporation of the lines of the Homeric poem, often literally translated, into the dramatic text. Moreover, the resources used by the author to update the Homeric episode and give it a new meaning, in line with her ideas and the message she wants to convey, are also pointed out.
