The religious interest is one of the most clearly identifiable aspects of the personality of Dio of Prusa, one of the leading intellectuals of his age (late lº to early 2º century A.D.). Like his much better known contemporary, Plutarch, Dio strongly reaffirms the importance of the traditional "Olympic" religion, both in the political life of the Greek towns of the Roman Empire, and in the personal experience of the man in the street, and in the more elaborate religiousness of philosophers. Of course, what we are confronted with is a completely new way of interpreting an old heritage.en_US
