La destrucción del serapeo de Alejandría como paradigma de la intervención cristiana

Abstract

Se analiza el relato que recoge la destrucción del serapeo de Alejandría en pleno momento de triunfo del Cristianismo. La reconstrucción de los hechos ofrecida por la historiografía cristiana ha convertido este episodio en paradigma del proceso de cristianización definido por una política coercitiva. Sin embargo el análisis del marco histórico en el que se integra la destrucción de este recinto sacro, obliga a considerar un conjunto de circunstancias no exclusivamente religiosas y más complejas que las relaciones supuestamente tensas entre paganos y cristianos.___________________________This paper is concerned with one central historiacal-religious example: the destruction of the great temple of Serapis in Alexandria. When Christian authors wrote about this fact, they recreated what happened and this incident of vandalism has remained as paradigm of the christianization by coercion. If we want to reach a full comprehension of this violent episode, the analysis of the historical context must included not only religious reasons but also another circumstances more complex than the religious tensions between pagans and Christians.
