A network analysis of the academic publications on tourism

Abstract

The following paper contains a detailed network analysis of the top academic publications found about tourism (according to their impact factor) of the Journal Citation Report, under the category of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport &- Tourism. After collecting all the published papers from 2016 we study the relations between authors and the keywords highlighted in their papers, using methods that were mainly used to analyse social media so far. The goal was to diagnose the academic debate and its main indicators. Turned out that the field is still dominated by collaborative writing and that collaboration can mainly be strategic. En este trabajo se desarrolla un análisis de redes muy detallada de las publicaciones académicas correspondientes a las revistas líder sobre turismo indexadas en el Journal Citation Report, en el área de turismo, ocio y recreación, acorde a su factor de impacto. Tras recopilar todas las revistas publicadas a lo largo de 2016 estudiamos la relación entre los autores y las palabras claves, utilizando métodos que hasta ahora solo se habían utilizado para analizar redes sociales, con el objetivo de diagnosticar el debate académico y sus principales indicadores. El análisis confirma que el campo del turismo sigue dominado por las coautorías y que estas coautorías son principalmente estratégicas.
