¿Sociología de la infancia? : aproximaciones a un campo de estudio difuso

Abstract

El estudio de la infancia y de su papel en el funcionamiento y reproducción de las sociedades humanas, incomprensiblemente, no ha ocupado un lugar central en la teoría sociológica. En este artículo se ofrecen algunas claves que permiten, sobra la base de las escasas aportaciones con las que contamos en relación al estudio sociológico de la situación social de los menores, tomar posiciones y reivindicar la infancia como un objeto de estudio netamente sociológico, bajo la hipó¬tesis de que ésta no es sino una construcción social, cuya génesis debe ser estudiada en perspectiva histórica y social.

The study of childhood and its role in the functioning and reproduction of human societies, inexplicably, have not occupied a central place in sociological theory. In this article we offer some clues that allow, on the basis of the few contributions we have concerning the sociological study of the social situation of children, to take positions and claim childhood as a purely sociological subject of study, under the hypothesis that this is nothing but a social construction, whose origin has to be studied from a historic and social perspective.
