Abstract
Ercilla’s imitation of the Laberinto de Fortuna was not limited to specific verses or episodes. The construction of La Araucana as a heroic poem around a first person who narrates and a second person who acts as a receiver has its source in Juan de Mena. Ercilla also took from Mena the splitting of both into characters in the story and the articulation of the poem around the history.
