Abstract
Ercilla gave a relevant role to mockery and irony in the writing and construction of La Araucana. Following Ariosto’s model, humor becomes both an aesthetic and ideological instrument to present his epic discourse to the readers and, especially, to the monarch Philip II as poet’s interlocutor in the work.
