Una ceiba en La Rábida : propuestas colombinas del delegado cubano Julián Martínez Castells en la Exposición Iberoamericana de Sevilla (1929).

Abstract

Este trabajo pretende presentar las acciones colombinas que, en el marco de la Exposición Iberoamericana de Sevilla de 1929, serían llevadas a cabo por los delegados americanos. Entre ellos destacan los esfuerzos de Julián Martínez Castells, asistente del comisionado general del Gobierno de Cuba en la Exposición, que propondría una serie de actividades culturales y de hermanamiento entre Cuba y los “Lugares Colombinos”, a través del vínculo con la Sociedad Colombina Onubense de Huelva. Estas intenciones, en principio con un marcado carácter hispanoamericanista, darían origen algunos años más tarde a una institución en la Cuba de los años treinta del siglo XX, la Sociedad Panamericana, que no perdería su huella colombina.We intend to highlight the “Colombinas” actions that, within the framework of the Ibero- American Exposition of Seville of 1929, would be carried out by the American commissioners in this Exhibition. Among them are the efforts of Julián Martínez Castells, assistant of the commissioner of the Government of Cuba in the Exhibition, who would propose a series of cultural and twinning activities between Cuba and “Lugares Colombinos”, through the link with Sociedad Colombina Onubense of Huelva. These intentions, with a marked Hispano- Americanist character, would give rise some years later to an institution in the Cuba of the thirties of the twentieth century, The Pan-American Society, that would maintain its “Colombina” footprint.
