Abstract
The town of Casares, in the current province of Málaga, acquired by Rodrigo Ponce de León, marquis-duke of Cádiz in August of 1491, is a good example of a Mudejar lordship. Although there has been bibliography dedicated to this lordship for half a century now, it is worth adding an ill-explored analytical perspective: the comparative analysis of the first rituals of transmission of the lordship. The first of these took place in September of 1491, a few days after the supposed sale of the lordship to the marquis of Cádiz. The second ritual took place in September of 1492 after the death of Rodrigo, who named his widow, Beatriz Pacheco, guardian of his grandson and heir. The comparison of these documents along with that of the ritual of lordship transmission carried out in the name of the second duke of Arcos in 1530 reveals the mechanisms with which the new lordly authority is presented to the Mudejar community and allows us to observe its evolution at a time of transcendental change
