The main goal of this paper is the description of facies and depositional model of the an Upper Carboniferous carbonate ramp (Puentelles Formation). In this unit two stratigraphic members have been differentiated. Initially the basin received a huge clastic supply from nearly hinterland domains that were being deformed (lower member); later, when the clastic supply ended, an authoctonous carbonate production was generalized (upper member) developing a carbonate ramp in a trangressive context. The shallowest areas (inner-ramp) were characterized by the development of bioclastic shoals with small Anthracoporella colonies. These dasycladacean algae locally formed meter scale mounds in deeper zones corresponding to the middle ramp. In more distal sectors (outer ramp) mud mounds were thriveden_US
