La literatura de la bohemia vienesa : Peter Altenberg

Abstract

El final del siglo XIX y los primeros años del nuevo siglo constituyen en Austria un momento fascinante en el que, aunque la población vive todavía según los usos heredados del viejo imperio austro-húngaro, culturalmente las cosas empiezan a cambiar, en la medida en que los nuevos autores ya no se reúnen en la Academia, sino que desplazan su centro de actividad al Café. De este momento, la escritura cambia radicalmente, convirtiéndose en un arte que nace de impresiones fugaces y de instantes marcados a fuego en el autor. En este nuevo ambiente cultural se desarrolla Peter Altenberg, quien se erige en arquetipo y prototipo de esta nueva cultura vienesa con su prosa breve, forjando una literatura compuesta fundamentalmente de poemas en prosa, anécdotas y aforismos.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------The end of the 19th Century and the first years of the new one were a great moment in Austria, where people lived according to the social uses of the old Empire. The culture life was changing, as the new authors did not have their meetings at the Academy anymore; the new center of literature was the Cafes. That’s the way why the literary production had a radical change and it became an art based on fast impresions and moments. This impresions marked the soul of the author. Peter Altenberg developed himself in this new cultural atmosphere and he was going to be considered, because of his short prose, as prototyp and archetyp of this new vienese culture.
