Abstract
personales y contextuales asociadas a
este hábito. Método: Una muestra aleatoria y
representativa del alumnado de 10 a 18 años
rellenó un cuestionario anónimo (n=8956).
Resultados y conclusiones: Las alumnas leen
con mayor frecuencia y se han encontrado
diferencias territoriales significativas.
Introduction: Designing programs to promote reading requires knowledge of the relationship between the habit of reading books and other aspects of lifestyle. Aims: 1) To study regional and gender differences in the frequency of voluntary book reading among Spanish schoolchildren and 2) To identify personal and contextual characteristics associated with this habit. Method: A random sample (n= 8956), representative of Spanish schoolchildren aged 10 to 18, filled in an anonymous questionnaire. Results and conclusions: the girls read books more often than boys, and significant territorial differences were found. Additionally, frequent reading is associated with voluntary writing, success in school, parent-child communication, helping out with housework, and a variety of protective behaviours.
