«Y píntola en mi imaginación como la deseo»: Dulcinea entre la letra y la imagen

Abstract

El estudio de las distintas representaciones de Dulcinea del Toboso y de Aldonza Lorenzo como personajes del Quijote es el propósito fundamental de este ensayo. De este modo, veremos cómo la dama, que una vez ideada por el caballero se convierte en eje y motor de nuestra historia, ha sido leída, entendida y trasladada a la pintura fluctuando según la época, sin que se consiga por tanto crear un imaginario sólido en torno a ella. En las páginas siguientes se intentará aclarar si esto se debe a que nunca aparece para desdecirse o reafirmarse en el discurso que los demás personajes realizan sobre ella.The primary focus of this essay is the study of different representations of Dulcinea del Toboso and Aldonza Lorenzo as characters in Don Quixote. Consecuently, it will be shown how she, once is shaped by the knight, becomes the centre and the motor of the narrative, has been read, understood and painted according to the particular era, without having become a fully realised character. This essay will try to clarify whether this is due to the fact that she never actively appears to counteract or reinforce the discourse that other characters construct about her.
