El modelo de plataforma carbonatada del Albiense superior de Sopeña (Karrantza, Bizkaia)

Abstract

A first detailed analysis of the UpperAlbian sequence of the Sopeña area, Karrantza valley (Bizkaia), is documented. E-W and N-S cross sections of the Sopeña platform Indicate different types of platform margins adjacent to basinal troughs with siliciclastic deposition. Internally, the Sopeña platform contains at least five sedimentary breaks, probably caused by relative sea-level falls of tectonic origin. A biostratigraphic analysis of the limestones (orbitolinids) gives a confident dating of the inflatumdispar ammonite zones
