José Guerrero de Ahumada, un clérigo rural sevillano ante el interrogatorio de Tomás López

Abstract

Se analiza en este trabajo el perfil eclesiástico e intelectual de José Guerrero de Ahumada, reconocido orador y clérigo ilustrado de la villa ducal de Marchena (Sevilla), encargado de dar respuesta al cuestionario del geógrafo real Tomás López. Se estudian los orígenes familiares de Guerrero, sus años de formación, su progreso en la carrera eclesiástica y sus vínculos con la localidad en que desarrolló su actividad.In this paper we analyse the ecclesiastical and intellectual profile of José Guerrero de Ahumada, famous orator and erudite clergyman from the ducal city of Marchena (Seville), who was in charge of giving an answer to the questionnaire of the royal geographer Tomás López. We study Guerrero’s family origins, his training years, his progress in the clerical career and his ties with the city where he carried out his activity.
