Débora Arango, un referente del expresionismo y el feminismo en la plástica colombiana

Abstract

Débora Arango ha sido reconocida como una de las artistas más destacadas en la plástica colombiana del siglo XX. Aunque su obra actualmente es considerada un referente importante de la irrupción de la noción vanguardista en Colombia, entre las décadas de los años 30´s y 70´s en las que fue gestada la parte más significativa de su producción, paradójicamente fue condenada a la invisibilidad y censura. Debido, por un lado, al enfoque crítico e incisivo de sus planteamientos frente a aspectos hegemónicos como: la religión, la política y la sociedad; temas y posiciones que no se consideraban propias de una mujer, rebasando convenciones de género y, por otro lado, a su manejo técnico altamente expresionista y trasgresor de los valores academicistas. En este artículo, se harán mención de algunos aspectos biográficos relevantes, el tratamiento crítico dado a su obra desde su invisibilidad hasta su reconocimiento y asimismo al trasfondo iconográfico y crítico de algunas de sus obras.

Débora Arango has been recognized as one of the most outstanding artists in Colombian art of the 20th century. Although her work is currently considered an important reference point for the emergence of the avant-garde notion in Colombia, between the decades of the 30’s and 70’s in which the most significant part of her production was gestated, paradoxically she was condemned to invisibility. and censorship. Due, on the one hand, to the critical and incisive approach of his approaches to hegemonic aspects such as: religion, politics and society; themes and positions that were not considered typical of a woman, going beyond gender conventions and, on the other hand, her highly expressionist technical management and transgressor of academic values. In this article, mention will be made of some relevant biographical aspects, the critical treatment given to his work from its invisibility to its recognition and also the iconographic and critical background of some of his works.
