Paraguay en el punto de mira de dos notables de la migración española en el Río de la Plata

Abstract

Desde su llegada a América en el último cuarto del siglo xix, los inmigrantes españoles Rafael Calzada y Matías Alonso Criado compartieron un perfil similar signado en buena medida por el estrecho contacto que mantuvieron con el Paraguay. En este artículo acometemos un detenido análisis de sus avatares paraguayos, que pretende arrojar nueva luz sobre las apretadas redes transnacionales que tejieron con aquella República desde los países donde habitualmente residían, la Argentina y el Uruguay, totalmente decisivas en la trayectoria personal de cada uno de ellos.

Due to the close contact they had with Paraguay, since the moment of their arrival in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, the Spanish immigrants Rafael Calzada and Matias Alonso Criado, shared a similar profile. In this article we address a detailed analysis of their Paraguayan journeys, aiming to shed light on the transnational networks built during the republic from the countries they were living in: Argentina and Uruguay. Ultimately, this represented a turning point for the development of both their personal and professional lives.
