Abstract
The present single-case study examined the effects of Behavioral Activation Therapy on the reduction of depressive symptomatology in a 22-year-old Ecuadorian patient attending university. An ABA experimental design was used, with baseline measurements (Phase A), a brief BE intervention (Phase B) and a replication of the baseline measurement (Phase A2). Depressive symptomatology was assessed using the CES-D instrument. During Phase A, significant levels of depressive symptomatology were recorded. In phase B, an intervention based on values clarification, self-reporting and positive reinforcement was implemented. During this phase, a gradual decrease in depressive symptomatology was observed. Phase A2 was characterized by the replication of baseline measurements after discontinuation of the intervention. The results revealed that depressive symptomatology showed a slight tendency to increase during this phase, supporting the relationship between the intervention and the reduction of depressive symptomatology.
