Abstract
(1449).
The importance of Don Pedro’s literary personality in late medieval letters is undeniable. However, the contribution by Don Pedro (1429-1466), Constable of Portugal, to the corpus on the defense of the dignity of the female gender is an aspect not yet fully explained by scholars. This article aims to fill that void by analyzing how Queen Isabel of Portugal (1447-1455; b. in 1432 )–Don Pedro´s sister, and also a reader of, and a character in, Don Pedro´s works– was a key element in the articulation of a political, literary, and personal agenda that sprang from the ruin of the Avis family after the Battle of Alfarrobeira (1449).
