La memoria del señorío de Ayamonte en el archivo ducal de Medina Sidonia a comienzos del siglo XVIII

Abstract

El archivo ducal de Medina Sidonia fue trasladado en 1724 desde Sanlúcar de Barrameda a Madrid, donde habían establecido su residencia los duques. Los oficiales encargados del archivo procedieron a su ordenación, que ya era objeto de alabanzas cuando se produjo la agregación de las casas de Villafranca del Bierzo, los Vélez, Oropesa y Medina Sidonia en 1779. En este trabajo se analiza la pesquisa sobre el señorío medieval de Lepe y Ayamonte realizada en el archivo de Medina Sidonia a instancias de los duques setenta años antes, en 1709, antes también del traslado de la documentación a Madrid. La correspondencia enviada por los duques desde su palacio madrileño hasta Sanlúcar y la remitida desde aquí por los oficiales encargados de localizar los documentos nos informa sobre las dificultades que entrañaba esta tarea y sobre la utilidad que seguía teniendo el fondo histórico del archivo

The ducal archive of Medina Sidonia was transferred in 1724 from Sanlúcar de Barrameda to Madrid, where the dukes had established their residence.
