Los TEA y la Sociedad Pos-COVID-19: Desafíos y Oportunidades

Abstract

En plena pandemia supimos que niños diagnosticados de trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) y sus familias fueron víctimas en nuestro país de insultos y/o agresiones por no usar mascarilla en espacios públicos. Salvo esta información, aparecida en la prensa, no existe a fecha de hoy en España ninguna revisión sistemática publicada que haya analizado las repercusiones socioeducativas y emocionales derivadas de tales agresiones, como del confinamiento en estos chicos y sus familias. Tomando así la evidencia científica de otros países, a falta de datos rigurosos sobre el nuestro, reflexionamos aquí acerca de lo sucedido en esos difíciles momentos, como de las lecciones aprendidas, los desafíos y los retos que se abren a partir de tal dura experiencia vital. Al hacer esto, además de aportar conocimiento, creemos que visibilizaremos y normalizaremos este trastorno del neurodesarrollo del que muchos han oído hablar sin llegar a ponerle cara ni interesarse más.

In the midst of the pandemic, we learned that children diagnosed with autism spectrum disease (ASD) and their families were victims of insults and/or attacks in our country for not wearing a mask in public spaces. Except for this information, which appeared in the press, there is no updated systematic review that has been published in Spain analyzing the socio-educational and emotional impact derived from such attacks and confinement on these children and their families. So, taking scientific evidence from other countries, in view of the absence of rigorous data in our country, we reflect here on what happened in those difficult times, as well as lessons learned and challenges arising from such a harsh life experience. By doing this, in addition to providing knowledge, we believe that we will make this neurodevelopmental disorder visible, a disorder many have heard of without actually putting a face on it or taking more interest in it.
