Patrimonio marítimo-pesquero. Tres casos de estudio en el Golfo de Cádiz

Abstract

La tesis doctoral bajo el título Patrimonio marítimo-pesquero. Tres casos de estudio en el Golfo de Cádiz, es fruto del trabajo de investigación sobre la cultura y el sector económico de las actividades marítimas y pesqueras, entre 2018 y 2024, en el Golfo de Cádiz. De entre toda la investigación llevada a cabo durante estos años, nos centramos en mostrar tres casos de estudio seleccionados por su importancia como elementos del patrimonio cultural de la región. La perspectiva con la que se aborda este trabajo se centra principalmente en conocer la representatividad que tienen actividades marítimo-pesqueras dentro del patrimonio cultural de sus poblaciones; investigar la existencia o carencia de medidas de protección y salvaguarda en cada elemento del patrimonio marítimo-pesquero que estudiamos; y, finalmente, examinar de forma conjunta los resultados obtenidos en los tres estudios de caso y valorarlos conforme a las teorías sobre el patrimonio cultural y el patrimonio marítimo-pesquero. La investigación se presenta en forma de compendio de artículos científicos. El artículo primero se denomina “Barreras institucionales de la puesta en valor del patrimonio: El caso del Real de la almadraba de Nueva Umbría” y aborda la investigación sobre la protección y puesta en valor de este elemento del patrimonio etnológico vinculado con la pesca tradicional del atún rojo. El artículo segundo se denomina “Safeguarding intangible cultural heritage for sustainable development. The case of traditional salt activity”, en el se aporta una valoración etnográfica y patrimonial sobre la actividad salinera artesana. Además, se muestra la evolución de la actividad durante ocho décadas y se analiza su relevancia ecológica. Finalmente, aportamos el artículo “Small-scale octopus fishery with clay shelter pots: intangible cultural heritage and sustainable practices”, en e l trabajamos sobre la problema tica de la pesca del pulpo común y ponemos en valor la significación del arte de pescar con alcatruz de barro como elemento del patrimonio cultural.

The doctoral thesis under the title Maritime-fishing heritage. Three case studies in the Gulf of Cadiz, is the result of research work on the culture and economic sector of maritime and fishing activities, between 2018 and 2024, in the Gulf of Cadiz. Among all the research carried out during these years, we focus on showing three case studies selected for their importance as elements of the cultural heritage of the region. The perspective with which this work is approached focuses mainly on finding out the representativeness of maritime-fishing activities within the cultural heritage of their populations; investigating the existence or lack of protection and safeguarding measures in each element of the maritime-fishing heritage we studied; and, finally, jointly examining the results obtained in the three case studies and evaluating them in accordance with the theories on cultural heritage and maritime-fishing heritage. The research is presented in the form of a compendium of scientific articles. The first article is entitled ‘Institutional barriers to the enhancement of heritage: The case of the Real de la almadraba de Nueva Umbrí a’ and deals with research on the protection and enhancement of this element of ethnological heritage linked to traditional bluefin tuna fishing. The second article is entitled ‘Safeguarding intangible cultural heritage for sustainable development. The case of traditional salt activity’, which provides an ethnographic and heritage assessment of artisanal salt activity. It also shows the evolution of the activity over eight decades and analyses its ecological relevance. Finally, we present the article ‘Small-scale octopus fishery with clay shelter pots: intangible cultural heritage and sustainable practices’, in which we work on the problems of fishing for the common octopus and highlight the significance of the art of fishing with clay pots as an element of cultural heritage.
