Abstract

A first approach to the palaeoenvironmental significance of the Valsalada (Central Ebro basin) alluvial record, Upper Pleistocene-Holocene in age, is presented starting from geomorhological, sedimentological and radiocarbon data. This morphosedimentary sequence is made up by three evolutionary phases: 1) lacustrine stage (37,050±50 BP) under cool and humid conditions, 2) alluvial stage (from 10,550±80 BP to 3,225±50 BP) related to cold and wet climate and 3) colluvial fans stage (1,640±50 BP) during arid climate with human action influence. The Valsalada alluvial system shows a singular morphosedimentary evolution strongly influenced by climatic changes bearing variations in water dischar ges and hydrological availability in surrounding saline wetlands
