"The Road to Freedom: The Economy and the Good Society" is a book by Joseph Stiglitz, who, from a political economy perspective, explores the role of the state and the limits of the market within a global system facing three major challenges: economic inequality, climate change, and political polarization. These issues place citizens in the face of anti-democratic populisms driven by corporate power, where decisions are shaped by self-interest. In this context, Stiglitz questions the role of economics in today's society and its significance in paving the way toward freedom with social justice.
