No pueden conseguirlo ni los análisis parciales, por importante que sea el aspecto elegido, ni los que se centran en la coyuntura, ni los que no son capaces de captar las condiciones y los márgenes de libertad del sistema económico capitalista, ni los que se desorientan al moverse en el eje temporal, en el que hay que gestionar el presente y construir el futuro. JesúsThis paper aims to analyse the dynamic relationships between prices, wages and private consumption for a sample of the 12 initial EMU members for the period 1999-2019. To do so, we adopt a novel approach based on panel-VAR models that allows to perform a multivariate Granger causality analysis between the variables mentioned within a complex information system which also includes labour market and economic cycle variables. In a second stage, we complete this analysis with application of the iterative PC algorithm that allows us to interpret the results of the model in the lines of graphic theory and causal graphs methods. The results obtained reveal a causal relationship from prices to wages, supporting the wage indexation hypothesis for the whole sample. On the contrary, we do not find evidence of wages causing any increase of prices, which enables us to disregard the wage-inflation hypothesis. Additionally, the approach adopted enables country-specific analyses, which are essential for understanding the specificities of each economy. In this regard, we find that Ireland is the only country where private consumption appears to exert pressure on prices. Retos para las políticas públicas en la industria del automóvil(Universidad de Huelva, 2025) Lampón Caride, Jesús Fernando; Crespo Velando, Miguel Ángel; Pérez Moure, HugoEl artículo analiza la reciente localización de las actividades de la cadena de valor de la batería del vehículo eléctrico. En particular, en un país clave para la industria europea del automóvil como es España. Los resultados de este análisis destacan que las nuevas localizaciones han favorecido el desarrollo de esta cadena de valor. Sin embargo, no ha implicado localizaciones de algunas actividades de alto valor añadido como las de producción de componentes para las celdas, y las inversiones han sido irrelevantes en actividades de reciclaje. Las empresas propietarias de estas nuevas localizaciones son, en su mayoría, de capital extranjero. De estos resultados se deriva que las actuales políticas públicas de atracción de inversiones deben revisarse en el sentido de captar las actividades que no están presentes en esta cadena de valor, y fomentar que las decisiones de inversión se tomen en el país a través de empresas domésticas. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Item type: Item , The Intra-regional Divide in the Face of the Green Transition: Empirical Analysis for the Municipalities of Cantabria(Universidad de Huelva, 2025) Bedia Carral, Alejandro; Fernández Gutiérrez, Marcos; Gómez Peña, Ana Lara; Gutiérrez Martínez, MarinaThe European Union is implementing an ambitious strategy to carry out a just green transition. Evidence shows, however, deep inter-regional differences in vulnerability to the green transition, which pose a risk for this strategy. This paper analyses intra-regional differences in vulnerability to the green transition, using data for the municipalities of a Spanish region: Cantabria. The results show a deep intra-regional divide, where deprived, rural and depopulated municipalities are the most vulnerable to the green transition. These results complement the existent evidence on inter-regional differences in vulnerability to the green transition in the European Union, extending it to the analysis of intra-regional differences. This shows that the green transition may increase polarisation not only between regions, but also within regions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Item type: Item , Economic Globalization as a Determinant of Ultranationalist Parties in Italy: An Empirical Study at the Subnational Level(Universidad de Huelva, 2025) Matamoros Becerra, JavierIn recent decades, there has been a parallel development of economic globalization and an increase in support for ultranationalist parties in Italy. Therefore, the aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between globalization and support for these parties including several dimensions of economic globalization and other variables of interest. To meet this objective, a longitudinal study focused on the period 2014-2024 has been carried out with data disaggregated at NUTS3 level. The main finding is that the only factor of globalization that can explain support for ultranationalism is immigration from developing countries. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Item type: Item , El efecto de las capacidades productivas y tecnológicas nacionales en la inversión extranjera directa(Universidad de Huelva, 2025) Moya, Franklin; Álvarez, IsabelLa relación entre capacidades productivas nacionales y atracción y emisión de Inversión Extranjera Directa (IED), es un asunto poco explorado y que gana relevancia ante las tensiones geopolíticas y la posible reorientación de inversiones en la economía mundial. Los resultados para una muestra de países de Iberoamérica confirman el efecto positivo del componente tecnológico, acompañado de cambio estructural, en ambas direcciones de la IED en el período 2000-2021, mientras que las capacidades institucionales y del sector privado están más directamente relacionadas con la IED recibida. Los resultados también avalan el efecto potenciador de la IED extranjera recibida en la emisión de IED de los países analizados. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Item type: Item , Evolución del bienestar global en las regiones europeas: análisis a través de un indicador sintético multidimensional(Universidad de Huelva, 2025) Pérez Ruiz, Sergio; Santero Sánchez, Rosa; Marcos Calvo, Miguel ÁngelEl análisis del bienestar global desde diferentes niveles geográficos es clave para entender las desigualdades territoriales y mejorar la vida de los ciudadanos. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar la evolución de dicho bienestar en las regiones de la Unión Europea entre 2000 y 2018, considerando 2008 como punto de inflexión. Para ello, se emplea un indicador sintético multidimensional propio utilizando datos regionales de Eurostat. Los resultados revelan como, durante el periodo analizado, las regiones alemanas, españolas y francesas experimentan trayectorias generalmente positivas, mientras que las búlgaras, portuguesas o rumanas presentan un recorrido más estable o incluso decreciente. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Item type: Item , Shedding light on global competitiveness by analyzing regional competitiveness within the European Monetary Union(Universidad de Huelva, 2025) González González, Emilio José; Mora Ruano, Rubén; Cortés Rodríguez, Susana; Butenko Nesterenko, OlgaA review of the current literature reveals a lack of studies that directly address the relationship between regional competitiveness and monetary union. We make a contribution to the debate on the measurement of competitiveness in a monetary union by incorporating the territorial dimension. We develop a novel measure of regional real exchange rates as a proxy of regional competitiveness, analysing 127 Eurozone regions over the period 2003–2021. The findings of our study offer two key insights. First, we observe a geographical distribution of the real exchange rate, indicating that regional competitiveness is not only unevenly distributed across regions but also evolves over time. Secondly, we identify neighbouring effects from spatial dependence, which demonstrates that the competitiveness of a given region is influenced by that of neighbouring regions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Item type: Item , Regionalising global chains in critical inputs: South America in the face of recent transformations and expected effects on the Global North and South(Universidad de Huelva, 2025) Roitbarg, Hernán Alejandro; Fernández, Víctor RamiroThis article examines the slowdown of globalisation following the 2008 crisis and the growing significance of the Global South, focusing on value chain shortening and regionalisation in critical inputs. It analyses the general and sectoral performances of the Global North and Global South, with particular attention to South America’s positioning. A multi-country input-output model is employed, incorporating hypothetical extraction exercises for critical inputs. The findings highlight challenges and opportunities for South American nations within the regionalisation process, offering key insights into its implications for macro-regional spaces and their evolving dynamics. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
