Pleurodira fue un clado de quelonios abundante y diverso en el Eoceno de Europa. El representante mejor conocido es Neochelys. A este género se han asignado varias especies. Una de las peor conocidas es la alemana Neochelys franzeni. El estudio de un ejemplar inédito, que es aquí atribuido a este taxón y que corresponde a un individuo juvenil, aporta nuevos datos tanto sobre esa especie como sobre la ontogenia y la variabilidad intraespecífica e interespecífica del géneroPleurodira was an abundant and diverse clade of turtles in the Eocene of Europe.
